So as said, our heroine goes through the process of customizing a "figure" - a unit designed and programmed to be her ideal lover - via the secret website directed to her by Gaku. The very next day, she is saddled with a ridiculously large package and upon opening, out topples a very realistic (and very naked) Unit 01.

Some girls have all the luck.

Despite her fluster, Riiko decides to activate the figure per procedure (read: a kiss - no seriously, it's in the manual), and comes fact to face with the weight of her actions. Unit 01 introduces himself as her lover - a member of the Nightly Series - and things just kind of take-off from there. With the sting of her recent rejection still heavy on her heart and this new figure's gentleness, Riiko decides to call him Night and eventually ends up "purchasing" him for $100,000,000.

It's around this time, when Asamoto Soushi, a long-time childhood friend of Riiko's, starts to realize his own feelings and enters the arena of competition to capture her heart. He feels as though he missed out on his chance to show Riiko happiness, because he didn't accept his feelings sooner, so he persues her with the intent of keeping a smile "always on [her] face". Soushi wants one thing, and one thing only: for Riiko to be happy.

Like many of Watase Yuu's works, this is the central focus of the manga: the love-triangle that is formed between Riiko, Night, and Soushi. We, as readers, follow Riiko as she comes to terms with the meaning of love and sorting out those feelings. What's different about this piece, however, is that, while Riiko doesn't understand her own feelings for a good deal of time in the manga, the readers have a pretty firm idea of how she feels pretty early on. This makes it especially enjoyable because you are literally watching Riiko mature into a woman - physically and emotionally. And even though she is our narrator, this story is not plainly hers and you connect with all the characters, especially Night, on levels that are hard to describe.

I highly recommend this series, not only to Watase Yuu fans, but also to those who are looking for the not-so-typical shoujo. Even those who didn't enjoy past works like Fushigi Yuugi, Ceres, or Imadoki! will definitely enjoy Zettai Kareshi because the comedy, drama and romance are layered in a way that is unique to this series and definitely work in conjunction with the other.
